Mark Pears from Stafford Tiles and Flooring Solution Ltd has considerable experience in the retail tile market, since the age of 19, when he was employed by a local retailer as a sales assistant. He progressed to assistant manager and was then approached by two local tile fitters who were setting up their own retail establishment and invited him to run it. After 18 months the business moved to much larger premises in a more prominent position. Having developed a good customer base and a reputation for high quality goods and services, it was able to flourish in its new surroundings.

Mark has developed his skills during his career though work-based learning, earning several qualifications along the way, as well as a shortlisting for Employee of the Year at the 2014 TTA awards. He has helped his company become the go-to place in the area for all tile and flooring inquiries, and has developed it from a work force of just four people, including himself, into a team of ten full-time employed staff.

His philosophy is constantly to invest in the future of the industry by taking on young apprentices in sales and fitting capacities. He aims to establish a future for the business by establishing a legacy that will carry on through the skills and knowledge passed on to learners. The company’s apprentices are now gaining industry reputation by being nominated for, and winning, awards such as Apprentice of the Year Awards in both 2014 and 2015.
